It is 4:04 am on a Friday morning, and I should be asleep, but I got home not too long ago, after an evening out with girl friends.
We went for a buffet dinner at M Hotel, and then hung out at Clarke Quay’s Warehouse, listening to a family band play music live.
I’m waiting for my hair to dry, because I’m not a fan of hair dryers. So I’m taking this time to wind down.
I’m not drunk. Or high. I’m peppermin-tea.
It’s Day 1 of my period, and I took a Panadol Menstrual pill to keep the pain away. (I am so glad they’re back on the market.)
I don’t think it was wise to have alcohol when I’m already on drugs, so I decided to drink peppermint tea instead (normal tea doesn’t seem to sit well with my digestive system during this time either).
Peppermint tea during dinner, peppermint tea at the Warehouse (pub?). I’m peppermin-tea.
The buffet at M Hotel is pretty good.
Agnes made some reservations on an app, and we paid $30 apiece. (It was $29.79 or so but somehow the rounded up figure was decided upon.)
The ladies had prawns and escargot and scallops and clams and massive crab legs. I was lazy and had none.
If Agnes hadn’t asked if I wanted steak, I would have had none of that either. That was nice (both Agnes and the steak). Agnes did offer to peel stuff for me, but I was happy with what I could get already.
I had lots of itty bitty chocolate cakes, blackforest cakes, food from the salad bar (waldorf[?] apple salad, a duck salad, a pasta salad, and one with mandarins in it).
I had slices of salmon and tuna sashimi, and some unknown sushi.
I had pasta in a cream sauce, whipped potato (with truffle, so that was the only thing I wasted), fish fritters and fries, and a very slim single-pineapple “Hawaiian” pizza.
Then more desserts: some fruit-embedded cheese, a too-milky creme brulee, and more chocolate and blackforest cakes.
I had mugs of tea.
We left four hours later feeling very full. Agnes had to go home, she was crashing. We popped into a very noisy bar lounge to have a listen, but I felt it was too noisy to stay. We walked Agnes to the train station, and then decided to head to Clarke Quay.
Warehouse, and the family band.
Warehouse was awesome. We did have to — Emmy and Yu Qing and I — accept that there was no way to take the last trains home, because we would only have 15 minutes to sit, but it was worth the late night.
The ladies had cocktails and I had tea. There was a tiny bowl of munchies. I chose tea for $7, and thought it was a good budget choice… Someone tell me why the whole bill was $70?
Yu Qing paid, said it was her treat, and declined getting the receipt. I couldn’t see it, it was covered by the card reader, and I have no idea why there were five things listed…
It was too late to ask if anyone checked the bill. And without a reciept, there was no way to check. Emmy said the cocktails would have been $27 each…
The music though — the family, Chris and Diana’s the name of the band — awesome. So many good songs and bands and singers: the song from Armageddon, Avril Lavine, Hotel California, the best rendition of Tennessee Whiskey I’ve heard, Linkin Park…
I had a lot of fun bopping on my high chair, sometimes singing, and generally just bring amazed. The guitarist even stepped off the stage during the solo and came up to all of us, playing the song and having fun.
I miss music and having it play in open air, not through headphones. I miss singing. I miss dancing.
The band’s made up of wife, husband, daughter, dude’s brother, and the “bastard child” who’s of Korean descent. Then a few people came and it turns out their son can play the guitar and sing too.
We said our thank yous and goodbyes and you’re awesomes when we left, and while waiting for our rides home, the dad came up to us and we had a chat with the family — they have five kids, and they all looked like they enjoy each other’s company. Mom looked so proud of her kids when they performed, and in love with dad’s antics when he had a stand-up moment.
I’m smiling, seeing a family that’s filled with pride and love and talent.
4:42 am
I am getting sleepy. My hair is a little drier than before…
5 am. I scrolled social mdia. Time for bed.
